This is our "elder" brother who has travelled far and wide in Sarawak as a Divisional Engineer and as DE of Sarikei he supervised the burial of the unclaimed bodies from the Pulau Kidjang Tragedy . He remains a faithful servant of God and will see his sons serving God selflessly like him and his wife.

We were warmly welcomed by him and his wife to their lovely home in Bull Creek.

Bluey has been making sausages by hand for Capel for more than 30 years! Perhaps he has made a few million miles of sausages using fresh meat from Capel. He has several special recipes like Chilli pepper sausages.

We were given a special demonstration by him when we popped in to buy special Capel products from their shop.

Bread from Vietnamese French Owned Bakery??

We stumbled upon an Asian bakery. As the young lady could only answer a few friendly questions we only managed to find out that she was Vietnamese. Other than that...well we were not to sure if we could be too friendly on our part.

But definitely their bread was really good. I had been to Cambodia where the French had left their impact on bakeries there and the Cambodians have learned to make really good bread.

We bought too few much. Kicked ourselves for that. But no more chance of going back for more.

Foochow Style Stew ??

I had lots of potatoes and beautiful carrots and a big packet of minced beef. Well I got a small packet of peas. And hey voila ! I had a simple stew -- kind of have a Foochow taste somehow. But because the vegetables were so fresh and the minced beef just minced the stew cannot be better!!

It was easy to buy a lamb shank from IGA and cook it straight away in an oven.

Excellent meal in the evening. No seasoning needed as it was pre-marinated.

Brussel sprouts are so easily available in Western Australia. They are completely worm free to our suprise (or no surprise at all). We bought twelve and we had them blanched and then stirred fried in butter with a bit of sausage meat.

Excellent. So farm fresh!

MEET Busselton’s oldest bookworm, possibly the oldest in Australia.Most people don’t read too many books in a year. Peggy Allmark reads at least four a week – and she’s 101.
“I always use Busselton Library,” she said. “They have a wonderful collection of books.”
Peggy has a preference for mysteries, not “sloppy love stories”.
Two of her favourite authors are Di Morrissey and Dick Francis.
Busselton deputy librarian Patti Bolt said the library did what it could to assist Peggy with her books, while Cathy Lord assists where she can when Peggy gets to the library, which she prefers to do.
“I’d much rather pick my own books,” she said.
She enjoys Di Morrissey because of her Australian themes.
So what was the attraction with Dick Francis, who writes whodunits based on horse racing?
It may have something to do with the fact they are both English, but Peggy admits to enjoying horse racing.
“I like to watch races on TV,” she said.
Which led to the inevitable question, did she have a fancy in the Melbourne Cup next Tuesday?
“I think Bart Cummings will get the trifecta (he has already won the Caulfield Cup and Cox Plate). I think he is a wonderful man.”
As for reading so many books, Peggy admits that it’s what keeps her going.
“I pretty well read all day,” she said. I don’t go to bed until 10pm. Mind you, I do find myself dropping off every now and then.”
And when she’s not reading a book she is into crosswords.
Only a few months short of turning 102, Busselton couldn’t have a better ambassador for Seniors Week than Peggy Allmark.

Busselton Jetty

At 1841 metres, the jetty is said to be the longest wooden structure in the southern hemisphere

Busselton Jetty is the longest wooden jetty (pier) in the southern hemisphere,^{[citation needed]} stretching almost 2 km out to sea from the town of Busselton, Western Australia. Because the shallow waters of Geographe Bay restricted ship movement, a long jetty was required so that the cut timber could be transported to the ships. In 1839 Governor Hutt appointed "the place in Geographe Bay opposite the Settlement at The Vasse to be the legal place for the loading and unloading of goods". The jetty commenced construction in 1853 after persistent pressure by settlers. In 1865 the first section of the jetty became available for ships to moor. In 1875 an additional 131 metres was added to the original structure, as over 10 years of drift sands had made the depth of the water too shallow for mooring. The jetty was continually extended until the 1960s when it reached its current length of 1841 metres.

The jetty also features a rail line along its length, which operated commercially as part of the railway line into Busselton from Bunbury. The last commercial ship visited the Jetty on 17 October 1971. On 21 July 1972, the Jetty was closed to shipping by Governor's Proclamation in the WA Gazette after more than a century of use. Once closed, Government maintenance of the Jetty ceased and it began to deteriorate, suffering attack by wood borers, rot and the occasional fire. On 4 April 1978, Cyclone Alby swept south down the Western Australian coast from the North-West (a rare occurrence) and destroyed a large part of the shore end of the Jetty. Subsequently, townspeople banded together to try to save the Jetty and eventually persuaded the State Government and the Shire Council to provide some much needed funds for repair.

However, rebuilding the timber jetty proved expensive and funds soon ran out. The Jetty Preservation Society, formed in 1987, resorted to community fund-raising. Over the past 15 years, in excess of AUD $9 million has been committed to Jetty restoration and development projects. A small tourist train operated following repairs in the 1980s and 1990s, but ceased in early 2005 due to concerns over the jetty's aging structure.
In December 1999, a devastating fire burnt 65 metres of jetty to the water line incurring $900,000 damage in the process ^[1].

Although I was a little late the light was just enough to give the mood of the moment. I could feel the cold creeping into my bones and nerves.

But it was all worth it.

Busselton was one of the earliest settlements in Western Australia, having been settled in 1834 with the original townsite planned for Wonnerup. This area was considered too wet and low lying and the Surveyor General of the day (Lieutenant Bunbury) recommended the present area. The town is named after the Bussell family, who were among the original settlers.
One of Busselton's historic homesBeing in close proximity to the tall timber country, Busselton soon established itself as a leading port. In 1850 timber was being exported and the small town prospered. Jetties for this purpose were built at Wonnerup, Busselton and Quindalup. Of these, only the Busselton Jetty remains. At about 1,800 metres in length, this is one of the longest timber jetty structures in the world and has become synonymous with Busselton.
Today the main industries in the Shire are dairying, beef cattle, sheep, wine, mining, timber, fishing, light industry and tourism.

The Busselton Long Jetty

We used Busselton as a base for a three day two night DIY holiday.

We got in rather late on the first day. It then dawned on us that businesses in Australia did not do long hours. We have to orientate ourselves to day shopping and once a week late night shopping. This time round we hoped against hope that a Busselton supermarket would be open. We were pleasantly surprise that one was opened and we bought our groceries. This was to lead us to two good home cooked dinners in our lovely self-contained apartment in Busselton.

However while there was still daylight left I had several glorious moments of photographing the famous Busselton Long Jetty. Miri my present hometown used to have a lovely Colonial period long jetty. But it is all gone in the name of development.

Here is a nice photo with a Chinese lady walking in front of me. It is not often you find Asians in the southern part of WA. But I believe there are quite a few Asian families in Busselton.

Most of the sales people are friendly. But I found one lady in Busselton who was most forthcoming with information and exceptional kindness. Very nice of her.

This is a good picnic place - next to the road. We met some youths hiking around this area. The eucalyptus trees kind of look restful and at peace.
